Session 1: Outlook of E-Commerce Packaging in Asia Region
The future of e-commerce packaging: winners and losers
Reliability and testing of eCommerce packaging
Ecommerce is evolving and growing, bringing it with new opportunities and new challenges for retailers. Unlike traditional retailers, online retailers often use third party delivery companies and therefore face a lack of control over the conditions encountered by their package. Additionally, the supply chain is often dictated by customer requests, and ecommerce retailers need to take these into account when making packaging decisions. Having effective packaging is critical for online retailers. Damaged packaging and broken products can have a long-term impact on a company's reputation. In this session, we will discuss the packaging testing standards of e-commerce and logistics to help anticipate the various types of transport damage to its packaging and products during transportation, to avoid product loss due to improper packaging, or packaging waste due to over-packaging.

Session 2: Innovations from E-Commerce Packaging – Converters’ Perspective
Exploring the application of flexible packaging in e-commerce
Packaging that meets the needs of e-commerce and future trends should have four main characteristics: lightweight, sturdiness, sustainable and smart. Our topic revolves around these points to explore the future of packaging to optimize customer experience.
Si Chen | Business Development Director, Greater China, Amcor
Pulp tray product and its application in packaging
Plastic packaging material, especially formed polystyrene (EPS) products, with its increasingly serious drawback, has become notorious “white pollution”.  The waste disposal of foamed polystyrene packaging brings severe pollution.  By burning it destroys the earth’s ozone layer, by landfilling its decay destructs geological structure, the waste of styrofoam products causes so much damage to the environment.  Therefore, the alternative of using degradable environmental-protection packaging materials to avoid "white pollution" and hence to improve people's living environment, is an explicit requirement both in China and worldwide.  Looking for new environment-friendly packaging material as replacement is now imperative. In this big background, pulp tray products were introduced.  Successfully used in food, medical care, agriculture, industry, and other fields, technology played an important role in preventing environmental pollution and deterioration.

Session 4: New Technologies and Digitalization in The E-Commerce Packaging Industry
AI-driven package design for e-commerce
E-Commerce esp. D2C shipments have taken off exponentially during the pandemic and are likely to significantly grow year on year. This growth comes with challenges such as higher packaging costs, product damages /recall, reduced customer loyalty, overpackaging and sustainability issues.
Radical, scientific, and technological approaches would be required to address these complex interdependent challenges.  In this talk we explain the foundations of new technologies and demonstrate several instances of successfully using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for solving E-Commerce / D2C packaging.
The talk elaborates on Using Data and Machine Learning to perform package virtual transit tests at a click of a button, Using Generative Design which is an AI method to algorithmically generate 100s of structurally validated Primary pack designs which are then programmatically screened for manufacturability/aesthetics/costs.
Chandra Arcot | CTO , Axiom Consulting
Next generation of supply chain traceability
Envision a supply chain with all its legacy technology but operating as a common database that all participants can access, read and write to! An open-source computing platform that provides consensus giving the supply chain a single version of the truth. This is blockchain, and this talk will give an overview of this technology and focus on what industries are utilizing this technology today.
Rory O'Sullivan | CEO, The Grain Discovery
Session 5: Sustainability in E-Commerce Packaging and Green Packaging
Green/sustainable packaging for e-commerce
  • Collecting packaging generated by e-commerce
  • Collaboration in the region for more sustainable packaging

Kate Bezar | Co-founder , The Better Packaging Co.
The best packaging is the packaging you don't need
•    The growth of sustainable packaging has the impact of deeply questioning packaging choices.
•    Increased global packaging regulations and reporting now require a data strategy for packaging which is complicated by material complexity
•    Customers are increasingly critical of excess packaging
•    Our packaging sustainability strategy at Dell
Benicio Yang | Packaging Principal Engineer, Dell Technologies
Responsible Packaging: a way forward with the 3Rs
Focusing on one of the main e-commerce packaging raw materials– wood-based fibre packaging. This talk will take the audience through the journey of the 3Rs linked to forest certification. The source is Renewable, the sourcing must be Responsible and the end product must be Recycled. This talk wants to help retailers and suppliers with their responsible packaging strategy and what it means on the ground.

Sustainable Packaging Alternatives for the eCommerce Market
In 2021 the global eCommerce market is expected to total $4.89 trillion and this figure is estimated to grow over the next few years, showing that borderless eCommerce is becoming a profitable option for on-line retailers.
The continued and rapid growth of eCommerce across the world also brings more challenges and consumers are now focussed at how deliveries are packed and whether the items are recyclable and sustainable. If they are packed with more air than packaging, or with difficult to recycle materials inside the box then consumers will out the company on notice.
The shift towards more sustainable alternatives in the eCommerce market means the re-design of packaging to reduce single use problematic materials, eliminate difficult to recycle materials and meet global and local Packaging and Waste Targets. Packaging Technologists across the globe are busy developing new innovative and sustainable alternatives to the previous plastic, paper, bubble wrap, air packets, tape and cardboard cartons that will not only lower environmental impacts, but also protect, preserve and transport products all the way across a supply chain to a consumers home.
eCommerce companies such as Amazon have developed Frustration-Free Packaging Programs that incentivise vendors to create and certify packaging that saves space and materials and protects products while in the e-commerce supply chain.
This presentation will showcase some of the most recent sustainable packaging alternatives that are available on the market.

Session 6: Supply Chain Collaborations
Brand protection solution for e-commerce and customs review
Online markets are growing fast and the retail channel of eCommerce has seen an unprecedented surge during the COVID-19 pandemic. IP crime is one of the biggest threats facing brand owners today. The rise in eCommerce and the globalization of counterfeiting can make the act of creating a strong anti-counterfeiting strategy challenging for brand owners. In this session, we will explore brand protection solutions for e-commerce and simplifying the process of customs review.

Digital Printing Revamps Flexible Packaging by Design
With the rapid development of e-commerce, the requirements of the retail trade have changed dramatically as a result. Shopping had to become an experience. The growing demand for product information from the buyer community is also forcing rapid innovation in e-commerce packaging. Digital printing offers the perfect solution for e-commerce packaging. The benefits of digital printing are absolutely essential for today’s packaging sector. Digital printing is the ideal process for small to medium print runs and enables the creation of customized printing for packaging and displays.
