Exclusive interview with CPRTC

Ahead of the upcoming E-PACK Asia conference, we caught up with Louise Lu, Vice Director of Science and Technology & Industry from China Packaging Research & Test Center. She gave us a sneak peek of what we can expect from her presentation on day one, taking place during our 'Regulatory landscape and standards' session.

Q. As online retailer continues to grow what do you see as the biggest challenges for e-commerce packaging?
We didn't know what is best package for balance sustainable requirements and protection function. E-commerce packaging minimization.

Q. What steps are you taking to deliver on the requirements of e-commerce and the demand for sustainable packaging?
To introduce the method of transport packaging test to resolve these requirements and demand. To encourage the e-commerce retailers to focus on the data of distribution environment. To recommend LCA to evaluate sustainable packaging, rather than green packaging definition.

Q. What are some of the biggest opportunities gaining attention within e-commerce packaging industry? (Based off the Answer) How has your company/organization chosen to react/adapt to stay on trend?
Do testing for ecommerce parcel distribution reliability and LCA assessment.

Q. What advice would you give someone that is just breaking into the e-commerce (packaging) market?
To meet the demands of minimization and sustainability.

Q. What industry topics are getting the most attention at this time? How are these factors influencing the future of e-commerce packaging?
Green packaging in China. It will influence the minimization and sustainability of e-commerce packaging.

Q. What does your company/organization hope to achieve over the next 5 years with regards to the future of e-commerce packaging industry?
To achieve e-commerce parcle to be tested with Chinese test standard.

Q. How do you expect to see the e-commerce and logistics change in Asia in the next few years?
Reduction on product damage and minimization packaging materials.

Q. Your presentation at this year’s E-Pack Asia will cover Guidance for transportation packaging standards and tests. Why is it important for others in your industry to hear this message? What are some of the key take-aways?
As I known, there are transport packaging test standards of e-commerce for the situation of North American, Europen and India. But, there is no any standard for Asia region.
• The requirements of e-commerce packaging in China, 
• The practices on e-commerce packaging test of ISTA application,
• Current application of testing on parcel for Chinese e-commerce market.
