Join Smithers, NOVA Chemicals and Schmidt Market Research for a LIVE consumer focus group! We will hear directly from Seattle-area consumers about their experiences with e-commerce packaging. Panelists will talk about their purchasing habits and answer questions about the related perceptions, preferences and challenges. In addition, each panelist will purchase several products through e-commerce prior to the session and share those experiences, along with the physical packaging of each item, during the panel.

Panelists will represent societal demographics including age, gender, pay and family status. In addition, panelists will not be currently or previously employed in the packaging industry.

  1. Introduction & Opening Remarks

    Workshop facilitator, Jonathan Quinn, will welcome all workshop attendees and provide a brief introduction before kicking off this year's live focus group.

  2. Panel: Consumer Focus Group

    Jonathan Quinn | Market Development Manager of Nova Chemicals

    Our consumer panelists will be asked an array of questions based around purchasing habits - preferences, perceptions, and packaging opportunities.

  3. Round Table Break-Off Groups

    Workshop attendees will break into small working groups to brainstorm solutions that address key e-commerce packaging challenges that are based around the consumer perceptions previously outlined in the workshop.

  4. Consumer Q&A With The Audience

    We will wrap up the afternoon with an open-ended Q&A session.

    At this time, workshop attendees will have the opportunity to "pick the brains" of the consumer focus group.

  5. Closing Remarks & Light Snacks

    Final thoughts & key take-aways followed by casual networking time with light snacks provided.

  • Jonathan Quinn

    Market Development Manager Nova Chemicals

    Jonathan Quinn is the market development manager for NOVA Chemicals' polyethylene business, where he focuses on understanding trends, the mind of the consumer, and discovering unmet needs in the consumer packaged goods industry in order to drive innovation. He has conducted extensive research on the eCommerce sector, specifically food e-commerce. Jonathan is viewed as a subject matter expert in the area of e-commerce along with Food & Beverage packaging. Prior to joining NOVA Chemicals in early 2016, Jonathan held sales leadership and business development roles at Illinois Tool Works Zip-Pak division, the COESIA Group, and Multisorb Technologies. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Packaging Science and Business Management from Clemson University. Currently Jonathan chairs the e-commerce committee at AMERIPEN and is on the board of directors for the Society of Plastics Engineers flexible packaging division. Jonathan was awarded the 2018 rising star under 35 by Plastics News. In the spring of 2019 Jonathan was appointed to the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) Global Board of Directors.
